BVD suppresses the immune system of infected animals, and as a result a whole host of diseases may be more prevalent on your farm. Symptoms may include
- unexplained ill thrift
- reduced fertility and abortions
- subfertility in bulls
- pneumonia and scour in calves
As a practice we have been heavily involved in the BVDFree England campaign, which was launched on 1st July 2016. This industry-led scheme is designed to eliminate BVD virus from all cattle herds in the country by 2022. It will develop a national database, storing individual and herd test results for scheme members.
